The pain was so severe that the woman believed that she was having a heart attack and wanted emergency treatment. When she arrived at the hospital, she was given an X-ray and told that she just needed to take Motrin to dull the pain. Lavern Wilkinson did as the doctors ordered, but continued to experience chest pain after her visit. What she didn’t know was that the doctors noticed a suspicious nodule in her lung when they looked at her X-rays and failed to notify her of the condition. According to the X-rays, Wilkinson had a 2-centimeter nodule in her right lung. The radiologist recommended that Wilkinson have a follow-up X-ray three months after the initial appointment and also suggested that she submit to a CT scan. Yet the patient never received this report, and instead was told to go home and take Motrin to feel better. When Wilkinson went back to the doctor for clinic appointments, she was also told that she did not need to do anything but take over-the-counter medicines for her discomfort. When she returned to the emergency room in 2012 because she was having a hard time breathing, that was when she was informed that a nodule in her right lung had doubled in size, was cancerous, and had spread to her left lung as well. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and told that the tumor had metastasized to her liver, her spine, and her brain. She was told that there was nothing that the doctors could do at this stage in the cancer, so she would simply need to relax and enjoy the last six months of her life. This is a severe case of a misdiagnosis situation, and Wilkinson will most likely want to seek compensation because of her tragic condition. If you have been victim to a misdiagnosis like Wilkinson, then you have the right to seek compensation from the party responsible.
