Livery Cab Driver Suffers Heart Attack Causes Accident

In New York City, many locals get around using cabs and liveries instead of purchasing their own cars. Unfortunately, these locals can get into dangerous situations when they put their lives in the hands of others. Recently, the New York Daily News reports about how a livery cab driver suffers heart attack when behind the wheel and crashed onto a Bronx sidewalk. The runaway car hit a 17-year-old girl who was walking with her 1-year-old daughter. Both the mother and daughter were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The 50-year-old driver may have suffered a heart attack and lost control of his car when he was on Prospect Avenue. He vaulted over the curb and struck the young woman. Emergency workers arrived at the scene quickly and took the victims to the hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. Both mother and baby are expected to make a full recovery. Unfortunately, the driver in the car died at the scene. The police are still investigating the cause of the crash but currently believe that cardiac arrest is the cause of death.

Drivers should not be behind the wheel if they are at an increased risk for cardiac arrest, seizures, or another debilitating medical condition that could cause an unexpected crash. If you have been involved in a taxi cab or livery accident because your driver suffered a medical condition, you may be able to seek compensation from the driver or the company that employed him or her. This is because drivers should be in good health in order to operate a vehicle safely and without risk.
